Hops

The flowers of the hop, a climbing plant. Large quantities of hops were found in a 10th-century boat at Graveney in Kent, so they were known in England, but English brewers made unhopped ale in this period. Hop growing as a crop and hopped beer became established in England only in the 15th century, so hops as a field crop are not a 12th-century English good.
