Gut and sinew

Intestines and tendons kept from slaughtered animals. Cleaned, twisted and dried sheep or cattle gut makes strong cord, later called catgut, used for the strings of harps and other instruments. Sinew and gut could also serve as tough binding and for bowstrings. Boiled down, sinew and other connective tissue yielded animal glue.
