A pale greenish-capped mushroom with white gills that grows in woodland, especially under oak. It is the most dangerous fungus known and causes most fatal mushroom poisonings, and it can be mistaken for edible kinds. It had no known use in medieval England; a forager who brought it home did so by mistake. Medieval English knowledge of fungi is poorly recorded.
