Health · from the second age

The Apothecary

In their time

Apothecaries compounded and sold medicines, mixing herbs, spices, minerals and sugar into syrups, pills and plasters, often to a physician's prescription. In towns they were closely tied to the spicers and grocers, and in London they long belonged to the Grocers' company before forming a society of their own in the seventeenth century. They depended on imported drugs and local herbs, and served both physicians and people who could not afford a doctor.

What they need

A hammer, without which the work can't be done. Also useful: a knife. They work at a apothecary's workshop.

How they learn

They learn herbalism by doing it: the work is practice, and practice raises their rank.

What they can't do

They can't be hired yet: their work is not all in the game, or not in this age. They don't buy or sell; their script can't trade.
