Reeds → Thatch

The tall common reed of fens, marshes and river margins, cut in winter when the stems are dry. Water reed makes a long-lasting thatch and was harvested from the reed beds of eastern England, notably Norfolk, though in most of England straw was the commoner thatching material. Reeds were also used for screens, fencing and floor covering.
