Bone

The bones of slaughtered cattle, sheep and pigs, a by-product of butchery. Bone was a cheap and widely used raw material, worked into pins, needles, handles, combs and other small objects; as access to deer antler declined after the Norman Conquest, bone and horn increasingly replaced it in comb-making. Bone could also be boiled for glue and stock.
