Ankle-high leather footwear. Medieval shoes and boots were sewn from calf, goat or sheepskin, usually made inside out and turned, with the upper cut from a single piece and extra flaps stitched to the side. Fastenings included thongs threaded through the leather and laces. Soles wore quickly, and repair by cobblers was routine.

The closest dated example consulted is mid-13th century; 12th-century styles were similar but not identical.
