Storehouse
Goods were stored in barns, granaries and in stone-vaulted undercrofts beneath town houses and manor halls. The earliest surviving timber-framed barns in England, at Cressing Temple in Essex, were built for the Knights Templar in the early 13th century. Twelfth-century undercrofts survive at the manor house at Boothby Pagnell and at Frewin Hall in Oxford, cool and secure spaces for grain, wine, wool and merchandise.

Surviving 12th-century barns are very rare; the 12th-century picture rests mainly on stone undercrofts.
