An outer garment of woollen cloth worn over a tunic. In the 12th century men and women wore cloaks or mantles, typically fastened at the shoulder or neck by a brooch or cord. Quality ranged from cheap coarse cloth to fine dyed wool lined with fur for the wealthy. Cloaks were cut and sewn by hand from woven cloth.
