The Child of the house
In their time
Children worked from an early age: minding animals, scaring birds, fetching water, spinning, and helping in the family shop or field. A child of the house was fed and clothed rather than paid, and learned the family's trade at the parent's elbow. By their early teens many left to go into service or an apprenticeship elsewhere, which was the ordinary path into adult working life.

What they need
