In their time
Woodland was a managed resource, not wilderness. Coppicing, cutting trees near the ground so they regrew as many poles, gave a steady crop of fuel, fencing and building wood, while tall 'standard' oaks were left for timber. Woodcutters worked under the lord of the wood or, in royal forests, under forest law enforced by foresters and verderers. They supplied carpenters, charcoal burners, coopers and every hearth in the district.

What they need
A lead salt pan, an axe and a hammer, without which the work can't be done. Also useful: a spade, a sickle, a basket, a pick and iron wedges.
How they learn
They learn woodcutting by doing it: the work is practice, and practice raises their rank.

They don't buy or sell; their script can't trade.
