The Guard

In their time

Robbery on the roads was a real danger, and merchants, lords and prosperous townsfolk kept or hired armed men to protect their persons, goods and houses. Great households maintained retainers who could fight when needed, and merchants often travelled in company with armed servants. Guarding was usually part of a servant's or retainer's duties rather than a separate trade, and its standing depended on whose badge a man wore.

What they need

No tools of their own.

How they learn

They learn arms by doing it: the work is practice, and practice raises their rank.

What they can't do

They can't be hired yet: their work is not all in the game, or not in this age. They don't buy or sell; their script can't trade. Still to come: patrol.
