The Plumber
In their time
Plumbers worked lead, which the Latin 'plumbum' names: roofing churches and castles with sheet lead, making gutters and pipes, and supplying the conduits that brought water to towns and monasteries. Lead was mined in the Pennines, Derbyshire and Mendips. Plumbers were skilled, often hired by the great building projects of the Church and crown.
