The Potter
In their time
Potters made everyday wares: cooking pots, jugs, storage jars and, increasingly, glazed tableware. Many worked in the countryside near clay and fuel, selling at markets over a wide area. Pottery was cheap and everyone used it, so potters were humble craftsmen, often combining the work with farming. Metal vessels were costlier, and wooden bowls and platters were common too.
