Felloes
Felloes → Cart wheel → Ox cart

The curved wooden sections that together form the rim of a spoked wheel. Each felloe was cut to shape, bored to take the ends of two spokes, and joined to its neighbours with wooden dowels. Ash, elm, oak or beech were used. On early wheels the rim was then protected with iron strakes, short curved plates nailed across the joints.

Construction details come from later traditional practice; medieval wheels are assumed to be similar in principle.
