Picture to come.
A slender blue-flowered crop grown for its fibre, from which linen was made, and for its oily seed. Flax is found at many early medieval English sites. The plants were pulled up whole, the seed removed, and the stems retted, soaked in water or left out on dewy grass, so that the fibres could be separated. It was a labour-intensive crop.
