The Mercer
In their time
Mercers dealt in fine fabrics and luxury goods, especially silks, linens and small wares, often imported. In London the Mercers were the premier livery company, and their members were leading figures in the city and in overseas trade. Some mercers also exported English wool and cloth. They served the wealthy and depended on trading links abroad.
