The town · from the first age
The Watchman or gatekeeper
Also gatekeeper
In their time
Towns kept a night watch, often drawn in turn from the householders themselves under the supervision of constables, to walk the streets, challenge strangers and raise the hue and cry. Gatekeepers opened and shut the town gates at dawn and curfew and could collect tolls on goods entering. Watch duty was more a civic obligation than a career, though paid watchmen became more common in larger towns later on.

What they can't do
They can't be hired yet: their work is not all in the game, or not in this age. They don't buy or sell; their script can't trade. Still to come: patrol.
