Small iron points forged by smiths and fitted to the end of arrow shafts, usually by a socket. Medieval arrowheads came in many shapes: long, narrow bodkins suited to piercing mail, and broad, barbed heads used chiefly for hunting game. Arrowheads were produced in quantity for war and the chase, but exact forms in use in 12th-century England are hard to date closely.
